Volunteers Preparing for Annual Winter Festival

ELY, Minn.– The city of Ely is gearing up for one of their biggest seasonal events, and they’re wasting no time getting the prep work done.

The Ely Winter Fest is a 10 day event celebrating the season with numerous activities.

Volunteers from the Rock Country Masonry is hard at work preparing 4,000-pound snow cubes.

Snow sculptors from around the world will flock to Ely and take a stab at making their own snowy creation.

With experiencing another winter with very little snow, volunteers were grateful that they were able to make this activity happen.

“And this year again we just got enough snow in the last week to make it work. And have it and be able to pull it from the airport and bring it here. It was just enough. We could use more, but we’re getting ‘er done,” said Patrick Knudson, owner of Rock Country Masonry.

The Winter Fest will happen February 6th through the 16th at the Whiteside Park.

And the sculptors will only have three days to make their sculptures come to life.
