Gary New Duluth Rec. Center Holds 10th Annual ‘I Love to Read’ Event

DULUTH, Minn. — The Gary New Duluth Rec center hosted its 10th annual “I Love to Read” event.

Each class at Stowe Elementary walked over to the rec center.

They got a free snack, story time, and books.

Students got to pick out two new books and as many used books as they want.

“For kids, you’ve got to know how to read. Reading is foundational to learning. If you can’t read, you’re going to have a difficult time in life. So, we want to get that enthusiasm, that energy, around reading, and here they can pick out books that they’re interested in, that they like, and it’ll foster that energy, that desire to read.” said Mark Boben, President of the GND Development Alliance.

Everything was free for students, paid for and put on by the GND Devlopment Alliance.

Giving the books for free relieves some of the pressure on struggling families.

The GNDDA spent about $1,500 this year on the event.
