Northern Star: Marnaries Ferguson
Ferguson recently became the all-time scoring leader in a Denfeld uniform.
DULUTH, Minn.- Marnaries Ferguson has made plenty of shots during his time at Duluth Denfeld.
Like all young athletes, his love for the game started early by watching a legend on T.V.
“Well watching Lebron growing up. It kind of inspired me to play basketball and then I met my coach and he’s helped me grind through it and now I’m here,” said Ferguson.
That coach that Marnaries is referring to is current Duluth Denfeld head coach Phillip Homere, who says Ferguson is truly a leader by example.
“He was here at 6:30 in the morning, putting up shots and he made sure he sent me a picture to say hey coach I was in the gym. I was like I appreciate that because the other guys they get to see that if he’s putting in the extra work, maybe I need to do the same thing,” added Homere.
And practice has made Ferguson perfect as he recently became the all-time scoring leader in a Denfeld uniform.
“Everybody knows what kind of kid he is, what kind of player he is. So him being able to know that he just made his mark by doing that. Especially seeing the person he passed, Sean Seaman, they told me that he’s probably one of the best players they’ve ever seen here at Denfeld and to be able to pass him, I think that was a great accomplishment,” said Homere.
But number one isn’t satisfied saying 2,000 points is his next goal.
“I set that when I played my 3rd game and I was like I could really hit it this year. Then I just set it from there,” said Ferguson.
Duluth Denfeld is next in action on Thursday against Cloquet.
