Travelers Feel Impact of Airline Computer Shutdown

Delta Flights Delayed Due to Power Outage in Airline HQ

Travelers are still feeling the effects of an early morning power outage at Delta Airlines.

A power outage at Delta’s headquarters in Atlanta shut down the entire airline’s computer system, grounding flights across the globe.

All Delta Flights at the Duluth International Airport did depart, but not without a few delays and a little extra work from the ground crew.

Delta staff members had to use their old computer system to manually process tickets and they waived baggage fees because their computers wouldn’t process credit cards.

Those with the airport say they are grateful that the Delta staff members were able to handle the situation and still get people off the ground.

“We want to thank our ground crew for the good work they did this morning,” said Natalie Peterson, Communications and Marketing Director with the Airport Authority. “That they were able to have the knowledge to get the folks out on what system and get them moving on their way.”

Peterson says she doesn’t foresee this being a continuing problem.

She did mention that she saw Delta crew members passing out coffee and donuts to travelers affected by the delayed flights.
