The YWCA Gives School Supplies to Families in Need
Pencils, Pens and Backpacks are Handed Out to Those in Need
The new school year is around the corner and the YWCA in Duluth is helping get school supplies for families in need.
The YWCA invited community members to their free event for a day full of fun.
The free event was held at the Spirit Valley Early Childhood Center.
They had fun activities for kids like face painting, a bouncy house, and a cupcake walk but all the fun was not without a cause.
Organizers encouraged attendees to bring and donate school supplies for kids who would need them this coming school year.
Melissa Hellerud-storie, the Director of Internal Programs, said “The majority of our families live in this neighborhood and their kids are going to go to school in this neighborhood, and end up getting jobs and be leaders of this neighborhood, and so I think it’s really important for us to also invest in this area, and the area families and kids, just like they’re doing for us.”
People donated school supplies were put in to a drawing for a chance to win prizes.
