#6 UMD Women’s Hockey to Clash with #4 Minnesota for 3rd Seed in WCHA Tournament
The Bulldogs last win against the Gophers came in March of 2022.
DULUTH, Minn.- The 6th ranked UMD women’s hockey team will wrap up regular season play this upcoming weekend as they’ll pay the 4th ranked Minnesota Golden Gophers a visit.
It’s a series with huge WCHA implications as UMD will need to sweep Minnesota in order to secure the 3rd seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
Recent history has been on the Gophers side though as the Bulldogs are 0-9-1 in their last 10 meetings.
Head Coach Laura Schuler says her team has changed quite a bit since their first series against the Gophers.
“I think it was still a pretty even game. And I think we’ve grown a lot as a team and that’s why I’m even more excited to play them now where we’re at. We have everyone in the lineup, we’re healthy. I think we’ve taken tremendous strides in many aspects of our game defensively and offensively,” said Schuler.
UMD defender Hanna Baskin remembers the previous series against the Gophers well as she tallied one goal and three blocks. She says the locker room is well aware of what’s at stake this upcoming weekend.
“I think taking any games from Minnesota, especially when we’re down at Ridder is so fun. And we like to win games but placing 3rd would also be huge for us, just playoff wise and different standings and you all know that. But, yeah I think obviously the goal is to go in and take two wins from them so that’s what we’re planning to do,” said Baskin.
The Bulldogs will try for their first win against Minnesota since March of 2022 on Friday at 6 PM.
