‘One in Four’ Beer Supports Local Domestic Violence Shelters
SUPERIOR, Wis. — Coming up in March, Earth Rider Brewery will be unveiling a new brew that looks to support local domestic violence shelters in the Twin Ports.
It’s being called the ‘One in Four’ beer. The new brew is a collaboration between Earther Rider Brewery, Safe Haven Shelter and Resource Center, and CASDA.
According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, 1-in-4 women and 1-in-7 men have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.
All proceeds from the ‘One in Four’ beer will be split between the local domestic violence shelters in the Duluth-Superior area for client’s daily needs.
“We have seen so many more survivors accessing our services, and we don’t believe that it’s because domestic violence has necessarily increased in prevalence. It’s always been there. We always know it’s bad,” said Brittany Robb, executive director at Safe Haven. “But what we recognize and what we really honor is that survivors are feeling like our services are more accessible.”
“I think just the visibility and the realization that these organizations are needed in our community, and so it being called ‘One in Four’ beer really speaks to the importance,” said Allyson Rolph, the head brewer at Earth Rider Brewery. “It may not be you that is affected by it, but it’s likely that you know somebody that’s affected by domestic violence.”
The ‘One in Four’ beer is set to launch on March 7th, during an event at Earth Rider’s Cedar Lounge. The new beer is only offered for a limited time.
Anyone who is experiencing domestic violence is encourage to reach out to either CASDA or Safe Haven as they both offer 24/7 help. AICHO’s Dabinoo’lgan shelter is also available for those experiencing domestic violence and might need legal advocacy services.
