Woman Airlifted After Fingertip Bitten Off During Aurora Assault
The woman's current condition is not known by law enforcement
AURORA, Minn. – Police say a woman’s condition is still unknown after having her finger bitten off in a midday assault, this past Monday.
According to charging documents, East Range Police were called to the Iron Gate Apartments in Aurora around 12:30 p.m. on Monday for reports of an assault. Officers said that when they arrived, they found 29-year-old Madusu Jawara restrained by a male.
The police report said a woman identified as “Victim 1” told officers that Jawara had “grabbed her and threw her to the ground” and said “nothing had occurred prior to the attack.” Victim 1 said Jawara ripped large chunks of her hair out and showed police bald patches where hair was missing.
A woman who the report identified as “Victim 2” said she saw Jawara hitting the first victim and attempted to intervene. Jawara allegedly hit the second victim and “bit her finger severing a portion of her finger completely off.” The second victim told police that Jawara threw her into a chair and continued the assault.
Jawara also went after Victim 2’s dog, and reportedly “grabbed the dog’s hairs, placed the dog between her legs and started choking the dog.” According to the report, this is the point when two witnesses stepped in to free the dog and restrain Jawara.
Following the incident, the second victim went to the hospital herself to be seen for her finger. The report stated that while at the hospital, doctors discovered the victim “was bleeding into her neck and her vitals dropped.” Victim 2 “had to be intubated and flown by Life Link helicopter to Duluth.”
The East Range Police Department stated they are working to obtain information on the victim’s condition, but as of Wednesday afternoon, a media representative for the department said, “We do not have an update on the condition of “Adult Victim 2″ at this time.”
Police said that Jawara was taken to the hospital prior to being booked into jail. At the hospital, police reportedly had to restrain her “multiple times” after she attempted to bite officers and spit at hospital staff.
Jawara faces five criminal charges, including first-degree assault, and her bail is set at $500,000. If found guilty on all charges, she could face a 25-year sentence.
