Fans Flock to Duluth for WCHA Final Faceoff

DULUTH, Minn. — Hockey fever has taken over Duluth as fans from across the Midwest poured into town for the WCHA Final Faceoff.

Four top-ranked teams battled it out to win the conference and receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

AMSOIL Arena hosted the electric weekend of women’s college hockey, which saw the Minnesota Gophers and the number one ranked Wisconsin Badgers faceoff in the championship.

Two sisters from Wisconsin attend the playoffs every year to cheer on the Badgers and say they love traveling to Duluth.

“We love Duluth, we came here as kids so this is a great place. We wish they would actually have the WCHA tournament every other year of something, that’d be great,” fan Kay Lund said.

The super fans were confident in their team as the Badgers have only marked one regulation loss all year.

“I don’t know but, we’ve beat Minnesota four times, so we just need one more maybe two more,” Lund said.

The Badgers went on to beat the Gophers to become back to back WCHA champs.
