Construct Tomorrow Teaches Students About Careers in Construction

DULUTH, Minn — High Schoolers got a chance to try their hands at construction today!

The DECC hosted “Construct Tomorrow”.

An event aimed at getting people into construction apprenticeships.

During the day local Highschoolers were there to learn and try things out.

They got to meet employers, try out different tools and equipment, and talk to experts.

“A lot of these kids are not old enough to go on a construction site in the state of Minnesota, because you have to be 18. So we’re talking to sophomores and juniors and giving that little bit of taste of what might be in the future.” Said Rebecca Nohava, Recruiter and Creative Logistics at Apprentice Training Center of the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers.

14 construction unions were in attendance.

They got to teach about local apprenticeships where people could earn a living while still learning the trade.

“This can be a first look for a lot of kids that come through here. I talk to a lot of them, and I stress on what an apprenticeship is, and a lot of them don’t know what that is yet, and this is a great opportunity to hear that everybody here offers an apprenticeship of some sort, and so they offer that opportunity to earn a wage while you’re learning your career.” said Nohava.

The event was also open to the general public from 4:30 to 6:30 this evening.

Anyone with interest in the trades could attend for free.
