Community Members Learn about Pruning Apple Trees
DULUTH, Minn.– With the weather turning warmer, it was perfect timing for people to learn everything about pruning apple trees.
Around 20 community members got their hands dirty while learning how to prune apple trees.
The group got to help out one of the public orchards in Morgan Park that’s sponsored by ‘Edible Duluth’,
The pruning class was put on by the University of Minnesota Extension.
It started with a quick seminar, and then they put their new learned skills to the test.
The organizer said it’s very important for people to have the chance to learn pruning at a free event.
“There’s a lot of apple trees that grow in the area. People might live somewhere that has them and they don’t know how to take care of them. And it’s not that high skilled, so to be able to empower people to manage trees so they’re providing fruit for us is a really great skill,” said Freya Thurmer, a St. Louis County Extension Horticulture Educator.
The University of Minnesota Extension is always putting on events similar to this all over the state.
