Duluth Denfeld Preaching Strength in Numbers Ahead of State Tournament

Duluth Denfeld and Totino-Grace will tip off at 2 PM at the Williams Arena on Tuesday.

DULUTH, Minn.- Soon the wait will be over for the Duluth Denfeld boys basketball team as they get set to play in their first state tournament since 2004 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Hunters have quite the draw off the get-go as they will square off with the three-time defending state champions, Totino-Grace.

The Eagles enter the matchup with a 22 and 5 overall record and a section 5AAA title under their belt.

Head Coach Phill Homere gave credit to his team’s work ethic for getting them to this point. He added that it’s going to take everyone on the roster in order for them to make a run in the tournament.

“I think for them, they should enjoy this. But I don’t want them to lose focus. Enjoy it tonight and know that now we have the chance to look ahead and to focus and understand that we’re going to need all 18 guys to be able to compete with those guys in the cities. But I think this group, we’re ready,” said Homere.

The upcoming state tournament is extra special for senior guard Marnaries Ferguson, who gets to potentially end his Hunters career with the ultimate cherry on top, a state title.

“It feels great. It means a lot to me. I dreamed of it. I grinded. I put the time in and it paid off. We just have to lock in, practice hard. And we should get it done,” said Ferguson.
