Major Power Restoration Continues for Minnesota Power

Crews are still hard at work in areas of Duluth

Minnesota Power has been working day and night to restore power to customers in Duluth and outlying areas, after last week’s severe storms.

As of Monday morning, less than 3,500 were without power, many of them were in the “ground zero” Duluth neighborhoods of Woodland, Lakeside, Hunters Park, and Morley Heights, where damage from fallen trees is severe.

Approximately 200 workers and 100 trucks will be in those areas today. The company expects the majority of remaining customers to be restored as late as Thursday, but are hopeful restoration will be earlier.

MN Power crews made significant headway over the weekend, by late Sunday about 21,000/25,000 were restored to full power. Some 46,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm last Thursday morning.

Crews have been working 16-hour days, and have called in additional resources from Ameren, Interen, MP Technologies, and M.J. Electric.

It is important to note that all of these restoration times are estimates.

Minnesota Power also reminds customers that if there is damaged to the electric service meter and mast, an electrical contractor will need to be contacted BEFORE Minnesota Power can restore power to the residence.
