Main Roadways in Duluth Have Been Cleared

The fire department reports the major roadways have been cleared, but side streets need some work yet.

After the big storms, the Duluth Fire Department has reported all the main roadways have been cleared and crews are busily working to clear side streets.

The fire department said they’re still in the recovery process and not exactly in the cleanup phase.

The department wanted to warn the public that many power lines are still down or are still intermingled with trees in the area.

They are working very closely with Minnesota Power to coordinate efforts to get the city back on its feet.

“Please be patient. I know it gets frustrating to not have power and you’re watching food spoil and you want to get things cleaned up. The city, the county, every agency involved is doing the best we can right now to make this a speedy and efficient recovery for everybody,” said deputy chief Shawn Krizaj.

With all the downed trees, the fire department has had to respond to several small fires, but nothing too severe.

The department also wants to report that St. Louis County has been doing welfare checks on the elderly and those in rural areas.
