Phillip Homere Named New Head Coach of Duluth Denfeld Boys Basketball Team
He takes over for Mike Devney, who retired after this past season.
DULUTH, Minn. – Thursday, Phillip Homere was officially named the new head coach of the Duluth Denfeld boys basketball team.
The former UMD standout has been an assistant coach at Fond Du Lac Tribal & Community College, Lake Superior College, as well as at Duluth East. When the announcement was made, several members of the Northland basketball community voiced their support for the hire.
“I think that’s what really made me feel so good about it because it just seemed like so many people, I was the guy they wanted to get picked for this position so knowing I have that support, I just feel like it’s going to be great for the program overall,” Homere said.
Homere steps in to a program that has struggled in the past few seasons. But he has high expectations for the future, even if the turnaround doesn’t happen overnight.
“With the current juniors, the current seniors, whatever underclassmen we have, we need those guys to come prepared for a new mindset. Basically the whole losing attitude, that needs to go. It’s a brand new start and it’s the way as far as kicking it off brand new and getting things underway,” said Homere.
Homere has also been a longtime coach in the Denfeld youth basketball program. He takes over for Mike Devney, who retired after this past season.
