Berrien County, MI Shooting Update

More information has been released as to how this incidient occurred

Fox News has confirmed that three people are dead and others injured after a shooting, Monday at a Michigan Courthouse.

Gunfire erupted Monday afternoon at the Berrien County Courthouse in St. Joseph, a town in the southwest corner of the state 100 miles northeast of Chicago.

An inmate, 45-year-old Larry Gordon, who was being transferred from a holding cell got into a dispute with the deputy while being escorted, and managed to get his hands on the deputy’s gun.

Two bailiffs, both retired officers, were shot and killed. The deputy and a civilian were caught in the cross fire, both were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

During the incident, Gordon took hostages for a period of time before trying to leave though another door. The courthouse was put on lock down before responding officers shot and killed the suspect. Berrien County Sheriff Paul Baily said Gordon faced multiple felony charges, not specifying what they were.

Investigators are still working to piece together all the details leading up to the attack.
