Northern Star: Donald West

West is entering his 4th straight year as the starting quarterback for CSS.

DULUTH, Minn.-Spring ball is usually a time for team’s to freshen up their skills and focus on the fundamentals.

But for St. Scholastica quarterback Donald West and his teammates, they’re also adjusting to a new head coach in Matt Bremer.

“They’ve been smoothly. The guys took the change and ran with it. It wasn’t as much change, it was just a different face. I mean all the core things that we still stand by are still what we go by today. We just still try to enstill those things everyday and work by them and stay by the same process,” said West.

West isn’t meeting an entirely new person though as Bremer was his offensive coordinator the past three seasons.

“We may use some phrases a little bit differently. We may just look at this thing a little bit differently when it comes to core tenets of the program and things like that. It is important that we put our own spin on this thing,” said Bremer.

With a few things being tinkered with, one things remains the same, and that’s continuity for West and his peers.

“It was great. We kept our back bone in place. Just having him in the building just lifted everyone’s spirits. Seeing him walk through the door when it was announced was great and all the guys loving it. So yeah it was amazing,” added West.

Now, it’s time to get to work.

“We’re definitely just stacking days. I’ve been through instills quite a while now so definitely just trying to still find those learning pieces and everything. But still stacking days together,” said West.

St. Scholastica is coming off a 4-6 season a year ago.
