MnDOT’s 2025 Construction Season Announced

DULUTH, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced this year’s construction plans.

Most notably here in Duluth:

MnDOT is finishing off the Twin Ports Interchange project.

Across the region there will be various replacements and repairs.

Our construction district which is made up of the arrowhead region plus a few counties had fourteen new projects announced in addition to their four ongoing projects.

“We’re here to announce that this year, MnDOT’s got 19 projects on our system, about $114 million investment included in those projects are nine bridge projects, 21 miles of resurfacing, two roundabouts, three other intersection improvements, and nine culvert replacements” said Duane Hill, District Engineer for MnDOT.

In addition, two MnDOT buildings are also being replaced.

One in Grand Marais is set to finish construction this August.

The other, starting this summer, is a fully new headquarters planned up in Virginia.

MnDOT also expressed that safety in construction zones is another big concern.

“A single crash in a work zone can change lives forever. Those working in the construction zones are our friends, our families, our sons, our daughters, and one single crash can change the directory of their life forever. Interesting fact with roadside crashes or construction crashes for that matter, is majority of people that are killed in work zones are not the workers that are actually out there doing the construction work. It’s the people driving through in the passengers in their car.” said Captain Pete Goman, Minnesota State Patrol, “So when you come across these orange barrels in the coming months, remember your choices behind the wheel matter. The safety of yourself, your passengers and the people working on those roads is the utmost priority. So please drive safe and have a safe summer construction season.”

The full list of projects planned for this year is up on the MnDOT website.

It’s recommended to look ahead before trips to see what kinds of detours or delays might be in store.
