Great Lakes Aquarium Celebrates Otters’ Agate and Ore’s Birthdays
DULUTH, Minn. — This weekend, the Great Lakes Aquarium held a birthday celebration for two of its most popular animals.
The two female otters, Agate and Ore, turned 12 years old this year.
Each year to celebrate, the aquarium holds a birthday party for the otters, which includes crafts, a birthday cake and animal encounters.
The otters were rescued and brought to Duluth after breaking into a craw fish farm in Louisiana when they were around a year old.
Since then the duo has become popular at the aquarium for their playfulness.
“It’s really exciting to be able to celebrate them every year, just because they are so charismatic and they are just really fun to watch because they kind of engage with the guests, which is really fun, they’re just playful and we’re so glad that we’re able to provide a them a home,” said Natalie Riemer, Curator of Terrestrial Animals at the Great Lakes Aquarium said.
As for summertime at the aquarium, summer camps kick off in June. Kids can learn about the animals and how to care for them.
