ALS Fishing Tournament Returns to Island Lake

DULUTH, Minn.– Hundreds of anglers returned to the waters of Island Lake this morning for the 26th annual Kolar Fishing Tournament.

More than 200 anglers were trying to reel in the biggest walleyes and bass of the day in teams or as individuals.

All proceeds from the tournament go towards funding ALS research along with resources for those currently battling ALS. In the event’s 26 year history, they have raised more than 3 and a half million dollars.

“Over the years we’ve had everything from stormy cold weather to nice weather. This has to be one of the nicest days we’ve ever had so what a way to kick off the in person event is fantastic,” said Title Sponsor Peter Kolar. “The passion people have about raising money to fight this disease. They’re actually making some great progress.”

There was also a virtual option this year where participants could fish on lakes close to home and track their results through an app.
