CSS Students Showcase New Innovations in Trade Show
DULUTH, Minn. — Students from the College of St. Scholastica held a trade show to showcase new inventions that students have been working on during the semester.
Students from the college’s new product development and the integrated marketing communication courses team up for the trade show.
The students were tasked to develop a plan and practice their sales-pitch it to potential buyers. This includes the invention, the logo, and all marketing behind their creation.
“Very much hands on skill building to help them get into the marketplace and figure out the best ways to match up a target audience with the product or service and reach the goals of the business,” said Melissa Goodson, a associate professor in Marketing & Management. “So real time skill building with creativity.”
Students showcased an array of fresh ideas. One student spoke about his spin on ice fishing rods, which looked to attached inline reels onto ice fishing poles.
“I wanted to do a product that was something that involved around my life,” said Tyler Olson, a student inventor at CSS. “So I’m a big outdoorsman. I did a lot of fishing this past winter, and it kind of just correlated with that. And then, my two professors, Kathy and Melissa, they they said that we could bring physical products to demonstrate. So I was like, I have all my ice fishing gear and everything up here, so why not bring some ice fishing and try to create a new product and new name and everything for that.”
The students from the marketing courses were also responsible for promoting and getting the word out for this event.
