Standoff In Carlton County After ‘Shots Fired’ Call

7:30 p.m. Update:   The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office said a suspect was safely taken into custody Sunday evening after shots were fired from a residence, which then created a standoff.

The call for help came in around 4 p.m. Sunday about a man who said he shot himself while cleaning a gun, according to the sheriff’s office.

When Fond du Lac police officers arrived on scene, they were met with a man screaming out a window of a house who then fired a gun, according to officials.

It was not immediately known if the man was firing at officers or in the air.

Nobody was injured.

Just after 6 p.m. the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa issued an alert that asked all residents and travelers to avoid the area of West Moorhead Road and Highway 210 in Sawyer.

“A person on Morehead Road called into dispatch saying a person shot themselves while cleaning their gun. Then, that person fired rounds in the air when officers arrived. The person has made multiple threats towards officers,” according to Carlton County Fire News. “Shots have been fired at the drones. Neighbors have been notified to shelter in place by Dispatch.”

Several armored police vehicles have been brought in, ambulances are on standby and a Minnesota State Patrol plane is circling above the incident’s location, according to MN Crime.
