U.S. Steel Donates to ‘Honor and Restore’ project
HIBBING, Minn. — At the Veterans Fair, U.S. Steel presented a 65-thousand-dollar donation towards the ‘Honor and Restore’ project.
The project aims to make renovations and repairs at Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
Flagpoles around the cemetery are old and worn down.
Some poles are so worn that they can’t be raised and lowered easily for maintenance.
The Hibbing-Chisolm Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Committee began the project and, in addition to U. S. Steel’s donation, much of the work will also be done by volunteers from U.S. Steel.
“They had the vision, they had the plan and just needed some funding to take it to the finish line. So, we’re really honored at US Steel to be able to help this community, help honor veterans and make sure that their final resting place looks beautiful for years to come.” said Chad Buus, Area Manager Mine Maintenance at U.S. Steel Minnesota Ore Operations.
Over one thousand Veterans are buried at Maple Hill.
The renovations and repairs will hopefully last for decades.
