Scouts Pay Their Respects For Memorial Day
DULUTH, Minn. — Local Scouts gathered at a local cemetery today to honor local veterans.
The Scouts were at Park Hill Cemetery placing flags at the graves of fallen veterans.
This long standing tradition is meant to instill a sense of respect for those who have served the country, including service members dating back to the civil war.
We spoke with one of the scout masters to learn more about this annual tribute.
“We’ve been coming here for quite a few, several years, and in that and we look forward to doing it as always on our calendar, you know, the Thursday before Memorial Day to be here,” said Ken Stafford, the scout master for Troop 9. “The scouts really enjoy it, and it’s especially here, the number of the number of veterans, but also how far back? I mean, you’re talking Civil War. We’re talking Spanish, American war, even in First World War, you know. So it’s quite a bit of history here.”
The Scout Master talked about how there are numerous cemeteries throughout the local area that don’t get the same recognition. He recommends that everyone take the time to visit a nearby cemetery and pay your respects this weekend.
