DULUTH, Minn. — Downtown Duluth and Canal Park are a bit more colorful now.

This is part of Downtown Duluth’s yearly beautification project.

Hanging baskets with complimentary flowers will be installed closer to Grandma’s Marathon Weekend.

About 70 planters were filled over the past two days.

“It’s so great to see people wanting to come out lend a helping hand, maybe a green thumb. You don’t have to have the green thumb, but you can. And it’s just, I think people’s way of giving back. Many of them are businesses in the downtown, just wanting to come out and help beautify the sidewalks. And I think that’s just really gratifying to see people wanting to all pitch in and make our downtown more beautiful.” said Kristi Stokes, Downtown Duluth President.

The planters were given a fresh mix of soil and compost before planting.

Over the summer, they will be maintained by Downtown Duluth’s Clean and Safe team.
