ASHLAND, Wis. — A family in Ashland is without a home and some of their pets after fire broke out over this weekend.

The fire broke out Saturday afternoon around 2:30 p.m. in the 11-hundred block of 3rd Street West.

When firefighters arrived in just three minutes, flames were shooting out of the two-story structure.

Two people who were home at the time got out safely on their own. One pet was saved. An unspecified amount of other pets died in the fire.

Officials say it’ll take months to get the home fixed. The salvation army and Red Cross are helping the family with lodging, clothing and food.

A cause of the fire is under investigation.
