Dozens Ran in 2nd Annual John S. Werner 5K

RICE LAKE, Minn. — This weekend, dozens of people showed their support for local veterans at the 2nd Annual John Werner 5K.

In honor of the first mayor of Rice Lake, the Veterans Memorial Hall hosted the 5K at the Other Place Bar & Grill.

74 runners participated in the race to honor the history, legacy, and memories of Werner and other veterans from Northern Minnesota.

“We’re honoring John Werner, mayor of Rice Lake and U.S. Army Veteran for his service and sacrifice to his country and his community,” said Jay Hagan, the program assistant for Veterans Memorial Hall. ” Well of course they served our country and were living in freedom and that they fought for. They didn’t sign up to go to war they signed up for peace. For those who had to serve in conflict, they were doing it to preserve our freedoms.”

All proceeds from the 5K went towards the Veterans Memorial Hall. The Veterans Memorial Hall is located in the Duluth DEPO.
