Man accused of lawmaker assassination to face federal charges
ST. PAUL, Minn. – The man accused of killing a Minnesota lawmaker and wounding another will be facing federal charges.
The Acting U.S. Attorney Joseph H. Thompson, FBI Special Agent in Charge, Alvin M. Winston and BCA Superintendent Andrew Evans will be holding a news conference at in the late morning of Monday, June 16 to announce charges.
Vance Boelter is schedule for an initial appearance in federal court at 1:30pm in the Saint Paul federal courthouse.
He was taken into custody Sunday evening, ending a nearly two-day search.
Former Democratic House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, were killed in their Brooklyn Park home early Saturday in the northern Minneapolis suburbs.
Sen. John Hoffman, also a Democrat, and his wife, Yvette, were injured at their Champlin home, about 9 miles away.
Boelter was arrested in a rural area in Sibley County, southwest of Minneapolis.
