UMD Defensive Coordinator Trey Dill to Tackle First Grandma’s Half Marathon

Race time for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon is at 6 a.m. on Saturday.

DULUTH, Minn.- UMD defensive coordinator Trey Dill is typically preparing the Bulldogs to tackle their opponents each fall.

But on this upcoming Saturday, Dill himself will tackle 13.1 miles, as he is set to run his first Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.

The origins of Dill running his first half marathon goes back to UMD’s Week of Giving.

The UMD coaching staff put together challenges to help the UMD athletic department reach it’s fundraiser goal.

If the department raised more than 45,000 dollars during the week, the coaches would have to complete their challenges.

“Put a goal out there financially for the alums to give and they crushed that goal pretty quickly. So, that put me into figuring out a way to get into the race,” said Dill.  “We were able hit all of these goal marks, so we are all making sure pay back what we owe.”

In Dill’s first Grandma’s Half Marathon, he is excited to get the full Grandma’s experience while trying to make it to the finish line.

“Find a way to get to the finish line in one piece to be honest. It’s first time ever doing anything like this. I’ve run some 5ks, I’ve done some two milers and three milers, and five milers in different races like that. But nothing even remotely as close as this,” said Dill.  “With our schedule we do a lot of football camps in the summer and do a lot of recruiting. So, I don’t always get an opportunity to be in town this upcoming weekend and I am looking forward to not only participate but just being around all the events and all the other stuff going on.”
