Virginia Apartment Fire Displaces Families Just Before Christmas
Virginia Apartment Fire Displaces Families
VIRGINIA, Minn. – Several families remain homeless tonight, after a fire yesterday at a Virginia apartment complex.
The apartment building burned for many hours, leaving nine units destroyed.
Firefighters from several nearby communities were called to the scene around 1:00 Monday afternoon and it took them nearly 9 hours to get the fire out.
The three story, apartment building was filled with flames by the time firefighters arrived.
Seven of the nine units had people inside when the fire started. All of them had to get out as fast as they could. The building now is a total loss.
Those who called the apartment complex home now have to find new places to go which is an especially tough situation during the holiday season.
Allen Lewis, the Virginia Fire Chief, said “The American Red Cross responded from Duluth and helped get these people care they needed and housing.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time but it’s believed the fire started in the basement.
