Allete Yellow Ribbon Golf Scramble Raises Money For Vets
DULUTH, Minn. — The foggy morning didn’t stop golfers from teeing off for a good cause.
The annual ALLETE yellow ribbon golf scramble took place today.
72 teams came to play.
Each hole had those teams doing anything from wearing body armor, dodging marshmallows, trying to tee off from a toilet, and more.
Each year, proceeds go towards a different veteran’s nonprofit.
“Minnesota Power has always had a very strong connection with veterans and military connected spouses and family, we became a certified as a beyond the Yellow Ribbon company in 2016 so it’s just, it’s part of our culture.” said Bryan Maslowski, Project Development Leader with Minnesota Power.
This year, that funding will go towards the veteran’s resilience project.
The scramble was estimated to have raised around eighty thousand dollars.
That money will support mental health care and PTSD treatment for vets across the state.
“Right now, like the nonprofit world, it’s really difficult. We’re in a time where the budgets are really tight. It’s hard to get funding. So, for us to be sponsored by elite Minnesota Power is a huge deal to us right now, and we’re so thankful. For example, currently we have 70 clients, again, veteran service members in therapy, and so through their support, we’re going to make sure that they’re able to complete treatment.” said Jonna Phillips, Executive Director of the Veteran Resilience Project.
The Veterans Resilience Project specializes in therapy focused on retraining PTSD triggers to be stored as memories.
Phillips says the therapy tends to provide Vets a sixty percent decrease in their symptoms.
Last year’s golf scramble funded a bus for the Silver Bay Veterans Home which was at the event today.
