Friday Evening Northland Forecast: 6/27/2025

Some Storms Out West

A week ago tonight, we had some wild weather here in the Twin Ports. A late night filled with showers, thunderstorms, and even a few tornado sightings (mainly radar indicated). In the 50 years I’ve been watching the weather in Minnesota, I have learned that weather tends to go in 7-day cycles at this latitude. Not always, of course, but about 60% of the time. While we don’t have severe weather in the Twin Ports tonight, there is some rough stuff just to our west, in both North and South Dakota. North Dakota has a tornado watch for half the state til 1am Saturday morning, and South Dakota has a huge part of the state with a severe thunderstorm watch til midnight tonight. Embedded in both those areas are some severe thunderstorm warnings going on, right now.

While those won’t effect us tonight….they certainly might be here in about 24 hours, or less, when things heat up tomorrow. In fact, Aberdeen, South Dakota was at 96 degrees at 6pm today. Holy cow! That’s the kind of heat many of us had just a week ago! So, if we get a little bit of sunshine, and some heating up of the atmosphere tomorrow, we could have a very busy weather night in the Northland tomorrow night. So…you’re saying there’s a chance….

Our predicted high on Saturday is 79, with a 60% chance for showers, both early and late in the day. Sunday will be warmer, with a high of 82, strong west winds, and a 30% chance for showers. Things will settle down a bit into next week, with highs in the mid 70s, and lows in the upper 50s. There is a chance for showers on Monday, but otherwise, most of the week looks fairly dry, as we turn the calendar to July, on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend, and keep an eye out for some rough stuff Saturday night.
