Navy’s Woodwinds Quintet Plays at the Bong Center
SUPERIOR, Wisc. — Continuing the Navy Week Coverage, the Woodwind Quintet played at the Bong Veterans Historical Center yesterday.
The five active-duty musicians are here to show the area that there is a variety of opportunities in the Navy.
They mainly perform ceremonies and events, playing at boot camp graduations, retirements, promotions, public concerts, and more.
“We play a ton of music by American composers, as you can imagine, and not least of which, the celebrity from our base, the most famous military musician in all of history, I would say even in the world, John Philip Sousa. We play a lot of his marches.” said Cameron West, Musician, Third Class.
The quintet is part of the Navy Band Great Lakes, which operates out of Naval Station Great Lakes near north Chicago.
Naval Station Great Lakes is also the only current Navy Boot Camp.
The Woodwind Quintet will be playing in several locations in the area and making an appearance on our morning show tomorrow.
