Charter School Makes Offer On Old Central H.S.
Duluth Edison Charter Schools has made an offer to purchase Central High School from ISD 709.
It made an offer back in 2014, but that offer didn’t go anywhere because the purchase would go against Duluth School District’s policy to not sell the property to another school.
But now, developers at Tisher Creek are trying to purchase the property again for Edison.
The District wants $13.7 million for the Central property, which Tisher Creek is offering $14.2 million for.
The Duluth School Dist. released the following statement late Tuesday:
After meeting in closed session to review parameters related to the sale of the Central High School property Duluth School Board members determined that a public meeting will be held to review an offer from Tischer Creek Duluth Building Co., a nonprofit entity affiliated with Edison Charter Schools.
“We are not saying yes or no at this time,” said Duluth School Board Chairperson Annie Harala. “We want to provide this information to the public, along with the potential impact selling the building for E-12 school use may have, and hear from our constituents. We want this be a transparent process that involves the community.”
Such a meeting will be announced to the media and through regular district communication channels.
