Habitat for Humanity Begins 5th Home Build in Aurora

AURORA, Minn. – The North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity is taking on the start of their fifth affordable home build in Aurora.

People gathered on Holland Drive in Aurora to celebrate the start of a new accessible home build with Habitat for Humanity. The event served as an opportunity for community members to learn about Habitat’s ownership program, including income eligibility, sweat equity, and how to apply, giving attendees a chance to ask questions, get involved, and take the first step towards owning a safe, affordable home.

The Executive Director of North St. Louis County Habitat for Humanity, Nathan Thompson, says that the heart of Habitat for Humanity is the donors and the volunteers. These projects can take around eight to nine months, and the process goes a lot faster when volunteers get involved.

“This summer, we’re going to be building five new construction projects, and we’re going to have two rehab projects,” said Thompson. “So we will have active projects here in Aurora, in Virginia, in Bucha, Chisholm, and Hibbing so, and we’re looking for partners to be homeowners and for those projects right now.”

These homes are built to be accessible to people who don’t have a good living situation, people dealing with unaffordable rent, and those without homes.
