WASHINGTON, D.C. & DULUTH, Minn. – Minnesota Senator Tina Smith is in the hospital.

Senator Smith’s staff posted on her X account, “While at work at the Capitol today, Sen. Smith started to not feel well. She went to the Capitol physician who recommended she undergo more thorough examination at GW hospital. Out of an abundance of caution, they are keeping her overnight for observation. She expects to be back at work very soon.”

Smith was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1958.

In 2014 Smith ran for office for the first time as Governor Dayton’s running mate.

She became Minnesota’s 48th Lieutenant Governor in 2015, and was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 2017.
