Grant money for shipyards heading to Twin Ports

WASHINGTON, D.C. & SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Maritime Administration (MARAD) has awarded more than $800,000 in a grant to help the Superior Shipyards.

A grant of $817,146.23 will go to Fraser Shipyards, LLC of Superior to help purchase a Link Belt 130-ton Telescopic Boom Rough Terrain Crane.

MARAD is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The grant was part of a batch of $8.75 million in grants announced for locations around the country in part of the Small Shipyard Grant program.

The program’s goal is supporting advanced training, workforce development, and new technologies that strengthen U.S. shipbuilding and repair capabilities.

In the announcement  Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy said, “This program will help America to build big, beautiful ships again to counter Chinese competition and maintain freedom on the seas.”

Since its inception in 2008, the Small Shipyard Grant program has awarded 382 grants totaling $320.5 million to qualified small shipyard facilities.

In this round of grants Superior got the third most amount of money.

The two larger grants were each $3.27 more money.
