Report Of Man With Firearm Creates Standoff With Superior Police
SUPERIOR, Wis. – A man accused of pointing a firearm at someone caused a standoff with Superior police Tuesday.
Officers got a report around 2:50 p.m. of an intoxicated man inside a home in the 1700 block of Iowa Avenue who pointed the firearm at “another occupant” who was trying to leave, according to police.
“Officers arrived and attempted to establish phone contact with the potentially armed male inside the home, but the phone calls went unanswered,” according to a news release.
The department’s armored vehicle was brought in to the front of the house to begin safer and closer communications through a loudspeaker.
The suspect, 38, eventually exited the home but “refused to follow the directions of the officers attempting to take him into custody, failing to keep his hands up and reaching for his waistband,” according to police.
An officer used non-lethal Pepperball munitions, which led to the safe arrest of the man.
