St. Louis County has acquired over 4 and a half thousand acres of timberlands.

Originally owned by a timber company, The Conservation Fund purchased the forests to be incorporated into public land.

The county will manage the lands at the local level for wildlife habitat, public recreation and sustainable forestry.

“These are productive, ecologically significant forests that will now remain in public hands. This is a smart investment in long-term forest health, local jobs, and the public’s ability to access and enjoy these lands.” said Jason Meyer, Land Commissioner for St. Louis County
