North Carolina Police Officer Shot by Peeping Suspect

Police say a North Carolina officer has been shot by a suspect he had just brought into the county jail.

The shooting happened around 4 a.m. Monday in Durham, North Carolina.

The City of Durham said in a news release that Officer R.S. Turner saw the suspect reach for a gun in the back of his pants after unlocking his handcuffs in the booking area of the Durham County Jail.

Authorities say the officer and 44-year-old Danny McMillen struggled over the gun, which fired once, striking the officer in the abdomen.

Officer Turner was treated and released from the hospital.

Investigators say he had arrested McMillen 90 minutes earlier when responding to a peeping call.

McMillen faces secret peeping, assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and other charges.
