Restocked Offense Ready to Lead Duluth Denfeld Football

The Hunters kick off their season with a semifinal rematch August 29th at Hermantown.

DULUTH, Minn.- Monday was the first day that prep football teams in Minnesota were able to have their first practice.

One of the teams taking the field were the Duluth Denfeld Hunters, who are coming off another impressive season.

Denfeld went 6-4 a year ago and made a section semifinal appearance. A big reason for their success was their ability to run the football with Taye Manns in the backfield.

However this year, Manns is off to Bethel and the Hunters are forced find a new identity on offense. Something head coach Erik Lofald is confident they can do.

“We are actually really excited about the kids who are with us this year. We really think we’re not going to take a step back and that we can run the ball with the running backs that we have. That we’re actually going to be even more talented at the running back position, deeper at the running back position. That we will be able to throw the ball, be a little bit more dynamic. Even though we lost arguably the best player in the area, we kind of restock. I think we restock a little bit on the offensive side of the ball,” said Lofald.

One of the running backs that could see a bigger workload is senior Jak King.

“Definitely losing Taye it’s a loss forsure. But we have a great group of guys that are willing to step up. Deon is going to bounce back from last year and do even better. I’m going to step into a role that is going to be newer to me. But we’re going to have a strong core with just me and Deon and that’s not even counting the other younger guys we have,” said King.

King and the Hunters kick off their season with a semifinal rematch August 29th at Hermantown.
