Superior First Responders Receive Grants Towards New Equipment

SUPERIOR, Wis.– When it comes to living alongside countless lakes and rivers, it’s crucial for fire, rescue and police to have adequate equipment.

And now, thanks to a large grant, this has become a reality for Superior.

The Superior Fire, Rescue, and Police departments partnered with Cenovus energy to receive $130,000.

Officials told FOX 21 the equipment has already impacted the community, aiding in a missing child search in April.

Because of the grants, they were able to receive underwater sonar units for 3 watercrafts, a personal watercraft, a K9 named Atlas and drones.

AED units will also be distributed around the city.

This investment will aim at furthering public safety efforts and ensuring readiness and efficiency.

“The grant money came from Cenovus, kind of our corporate we do ongoing grants with public safety. We kind of look at where the needs are, what we can do to help, and what we can do to make sure that we keep our community safe and provide some of our stakeholders, being the local agencies with some of the equipment that they need that they maybe can’t afford, right away,” explained Gary Knesil, Senior Emergency Response Advisor, Cenovus.

To ensure first responders are ready for anything that comes their way, each department also conducts monthly training sessions.

They cover everything from hazard spills, medical emergencies, rescue, and industrial firefighting.
