Local Environmental Organizations Proving “Everyone Can Bird”
SUPERIOR, Wis.– Everyone can go birding, and a group of nonprofits, and outdoor enthusiasts around Superior are proving this time and time again.
For the fourth year now, Friends of the Lake Superior Reserve has been organizing birding trips each year.
To make the outings as accessible as possible, just about every type of accommodation is included.
Binoculars, track chairs, wheelchairs, an ASL interpreter, and even a bus is provided to invite as many birders as possible.
“I think it’s really great that we’ve been doing these events for so long now, because folks have heard about them, and then know about them, and then just know that they can come and feel welcome when they show up, and we’re getting better at it too,” said Natalie Chin, Outreach Specialist, Wisconsin Sea Grant.
The feeling of allowing someone to experience something, they thought they otherwise couldn’t, is something that never gets old for the organizers.
“It’s so rewarding to know that anybody can come out and participate in these activities. And that we’re doing, we’re taking the steps that you need to make sure that everybody can participate. It’s just so important. And I personally am just really excited that people that maybe thought that they couldn’t get outside can get outside and have fun with birds,” Chin beamed.
‘Everyone Can Bird’ has one more excursion for the season on October 11th, and it’s taking place at Hawk Ridge in Duluth.
Registration for this event is encouraged, but not required
