Two dead in ATV crash, found in water

Carlton County Deputy PatchCARLTON COUNTY, Min. – Two people are dead following an ATV crash in Progress Township in Carlton County.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says they received an emergency call just before 9:20pm on Saturday August, 23, 2025.

The caller was reporting an ATV crash on Ditch Bank Forest Road in Progress Township.

The caller said two people were dead.

Witness said the two got separated from the group of other riders.

Someone from the group located them with an ATV overturned in water.

Attempts at CPR were made by people on scene in the group, but were unsuccessful.

Upon investigation the Carlton County Sheriff’s Office said a 48-year-old female from the Cloquet-area and a 59-year-old male from out of State died as a result of the crash.

Deputies said they two were traveling in a side-by-side type ATV.

The crash remains under investigation.

Names are being withheld pending notification of family.

Carlton County Sheriff’s deputies, Fond du Lac Police, Fond du Lac Conservation Officers, Minnesota DNR Officers, and the Cromwell Wright Fire and Ambulance responded to the scene.
