Harbor Monsters Day in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. — The Duluth Harbor Monsters recently won their second championship in a row.

They won ArenaMania II in the Arena League.

To celebrate the championship, Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert welcomed the team to the city hall rotunda on Friday, congratulating them and proclaiming it “Harbor Monster Day” in Duluth.

“I think its important to use this space as it was intended when city hall was built, the rotunda was intended to be a public gathering space. We don’t really used it like that anymore so to have the opportunity to have the team here, the trophy and make a few comments make a proclamation about the harbor monsters, thats what this space is for,” Mayor Reinert said.

Mayor Reinert compared today’s event to when super bowl champions visit the president at the white house. The harbor monsters head coach say it’s a continuation of the team and city supporting each other.

“When the community is showing us love and support, the same amount of love and support that we put into the community throughout the season visiting schools, visit charitable events its all major,” Tony O’Neil, Harbor Monsters Head Coach said.

Coach O’Neil says he’s already looking forward to next season, and going for a Harbor Monsters 3-peat.
