Flag lowered to half staff at White House after Annunciation School Shooting

WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump has ordered flag to be flown at half staff due to the shooting at Annunciation Catholic School.

His proclamation reads:

As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on August 27, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, August 31, 2025.  I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.

Governor Tim Walz also ordered flags to half staff in Minnesota.

His proclamation read:

WHEREAS: On the morning of Wednesday, August 27, 2025, a senseless act of violence occurred at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in South Minneapolis during an all-school mass; and

WHEREAS: This horrific tragedy brought devastation to a place that should be a safe space for children to learn, grow, and pray, shaking families, educators, and the broader community; and

WHEREAS: Minnesotans honor and thank the first responders, medical professionals, teachers, and neighbors who acted with courage and compassion in the midst of tragedy; and

WHEREAS: The people of Minnesota join together in grief with the Annunciation community, mourning the innocent lives lost and holding in prayer those injured, their families, and all whose lives have been forever changed; and

WHEREAS: With deepest sorrow, the State of Minnesota recognizes the victims of this tragedy, honors their memory, and stands in solidarity with the Annunciation community.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, TIM WALZ, Governor of Minnesota, do hereby order all United States flags and Minnesota flags to be flown at half-staff at all state buildings in the State of Minnesota, immediately and continuing indefinitely, in honor and remembrance of the victims of Annunciation Catholic Church and School. IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Minnesota to be affixed at the State Capitol this 27th day of August.
