Cloquet Celebrates Labor Day With Annual Car Show

CLOQUET, Minn. — A Labor Day stable returned to Cloquet on Sep. 1, as residents and car enthusiasts came out for the city’s annual car show.

The cars were on the display from the morning into the early afternoon, and the event was free to enter for all the participants and their cars. While other people may choose to celebrate the occasion at home, the car community always shows up for the Summer’s final holiday.

“We have a People’s Choice, we have a Best of Show, and the Best of Show is voted on by the people that bring cars. People’s Choice is voted on by the people that come to the show, and then there’s the best Ford, best GM, best Mopar, and a best other brand.” said Bert Whittington, co-owner of the NorthEastern Hotel and an organizer for the event.

The show had over a hundred cars on display, but for many of the participants, their presence had nothing to do with taking home a trophy.

“A lot of people don’t register. They don’t want to enter the contest. They don’t want a trophy.” said Whittington. “They just want to come with their car and get to meet other people that have similar cars and talk about their experiences working and restoring these vehicles.”

If you missed the annual event, Whittington mentions that many of the classic rides displayed will also be riding again in the Floodwood Car Show on Sep. 27th.
