Prep Football: Hermantown Defends the Hammer, Esko Wins Nail-Biter, Duluth East Suffers First Loss

Hermantown has held on to the hammer since the 2020 season.  

DULUTH, Minn.- Week two of prep football kicked off in Minnesota on Friday night.

In Hermantown, a rivalry game that dates all the way back to 1941 continued on Friday, as the Hawks hosted the Proctor Rails in the annual Hammer game.

The Hawks will keep the hammer for another year as they defeat the Rails 89-0.

Hermantown has held on to the hammer since the 2020 season.

In more football action, a pair of 0-1 teams squared off as Esko hosted Cloquet.

It was a back and forth battle between Esko and the Lumberjacks as the teams were tied at 14 in the half.

But in the end, Esko earns their first win of the season, defeating the Lumberjacks 21-20.

Finally, the Duluth East Greyhounds hosted the Brainerd Warriors.

Not the result the Greyhounds were looking for as the Warriors win 38-0, handing Duluth East their first loss of the season.
