Damiano Center Hosts Expungement Clinic
DULUTH, Minn. – Free Expungement Clinic taking place at the Damiano Center to help people as part of the clean slate movement.
The clinic offers people help with getting certain criminal records sealed by the court. The resources provided at these clinics consist of legal representation, ACLU lawyers, public defenders, and legal aid to help walk people through the process. Expungement can mean people get a fresh start, obtain housing, secure jobs, and obtain job-related licenses.
“When you have a criminal conviction, it is very hard to get a job, very hard to get housing,” said Nilushi Ranaweera, assistant attorney general at the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General. “Even going on a field trip with your child is difficult when you have a criminal record. So giving a second chance to someone by sealing their record is a fresh start for them and for the community.”
For those who are looking to see if their records qualify, Minnesota attorneys recommend people attend the next Clean Slate Expungement Clinic in Oct. or apply for free online.
