UMD Volleyball Begins Six-Game Homestand with Up North Preseason Tournament
Combined, the Bulldogs are 65-25 all-time against their Up North Tourney foes.
DULUTH, Minn.- You couldn’t ask for a better start to the season for the UMD volleyball team. A perfect 4-0 record at the McKendree Invitational.
An added bonus is they’ll spend the next six contests at home.
Bulldogs once again playing host for the Up North Preseason Tournament.
First up on the docket is a Michigan Tech squad that UMD has won their last three meetings against.
Head Coach Jim Boos says not to read too much in the past meetings as there has been some changes to the Huskies coaching staff and playing style.
“I think physically we match up well with them in terms of the areas that we can take advantage of, the things we want to take advantage of. At the same point and time, they have a lot of the same strengths we have. When it’s that, it comes down to who plays better volleyball that night, who does the little things correctly. I think that’s going to be the big challenge. Home opener you want to come out and play well and have the energy you’re supposed to have but there’s also some nerves and anxiety involved with being at home for the first time,” said Boos.
For the players, it’s all about their defensive effort when focusing on the Huskies.
“They’re very offensive and their setter runs a very smooth offense. I mean we’ll see when we scout. I don’t know we’re just very excited to play them because we kind of know what we’re expecting a little bit,” added Madeline Guetzkow.
UMD will also take on Adelphi and Northern Michigan this weekend.
